The village of Foz Tua at the confluence of the Douro and Tua rivers in northeastern Portugal has been the site of two conferences held successively in October 2011 and October 2012, with a third and final meeting scheduled for October 2013. Railroads in Historical Context: construction, costs and consequences provided the subject matter of the conferences, and the title of the publication of the revised versions of the papers as Volume I (2001 meeting), and Volume II (20012 meeting) edited by Anne MaCants, Esduardo Beira, José M. lopes Cordeiro, and Paulo Lourenço.
